Understand client ownership

Understand the first Owner and your agency’s stewardship grant.

This guide covers legacy client-company ownership and stewardship. Agency-configured Member access and additional grants do not assign this ownership.

In the legacy company invitation flow, the first person to accept an invitation to a client company your agency created becomes its Owner automatically, even if they use a personal email address. Your agency does not choose an Owner or send ownership handover links.

What your agency can manage

Your agency starts with a stewardship grant. It may invite and remove non-Owner Members, switch the company on or off, and view its settings. The first Owner joining does not end this grant.

The grant ends when the Owner ends it or another agency connects through a Client Relationship. After that, your agency can manage its own Portal, not the client’s company or people. You cannot remove, block, demote, or change an Owner.

What the Owner controls

The Owner manages company Membership and ownership. Only the Owner may change Join by company email or end the stewardship grant. The grant never includes billing, review decisions, or client-owned switches. See Client organization lifecycle.
