Send a file for client review

Submit a file for review, withdraw it, and resubmit after changes.

Send a shared file to a client when you want their approval. A file review moves through four states: Not submitted, In review, Changes requested, and Approved.

Submit a file for review

  1. Open the file under the project’s Resources, or open it in the resource viewer.
  2. Select Submit for review. If the file is not Shared, confirm Share and submit. The file becomes Shared and In review. The client still needs access to its shared Project.
  3. The client approves or requests changes from their Portal if they have work approval permission for an associated shared Project. See Approvals and feedback.

For configured relationship access, Owner includes work approval. A Member needs Approver or Admin in the file’s relationship and Project scope. Member alone and Finance alone can read permitted shared files but cannot approve or request changes. Company Membership is not required for this workflow.

For legacy company-membership access, any client Member can respond unless the client company restricts reviews or the person has Read-Only access. See Who can approve a review. This legacy rule does not grant work approval to a Member with separately configured relationship access.

Withdraw or resubmit

  • While a file is In review, select Withdraw to pull it back to Not submitted.
  • If the client selects Request changes, the file becomes Changes requested. Read their feedback, make the changes, then select Resubmit to send it back for review.

Editing resets a review

Editing a file’s content after it is Approved returns it to Not submitted, so you submit it again. Removing a file’s sharing so the client can no longer see it also clears its review. Submit the file again once it is ready.
