Milestone sign-off

Choose who at a client can sign off a milestone, then request their approval.

A milestone can carry a client’s sign-off. You choose who at the client may sign off, then request approval when the milestone is ready. They respond from their Portal.

Choose who can sign off

For configured relationship access, the picker includes people with current work approval for this Project. Owner includes work approval. A Member needs Approver or Admin. Company Membership is not required. Member alone and Finance alone do not qualify.

Open the project’s Settings and find Client sign-off. This lists the people at the client who can approve milestones or request changes.

  • Use Add someone from the client to choose an eligible person for this Project. If more candidates are available, select Load more people.
  • In the legacy company-membership model, the client’s Owners and Approvers are always included when their current access permits sign-off. The client’s Owner assigns that company Approver role on their People page. See Client roles and the People page.

Adding someone to this Project’s sign-off list does not give them broader permissions. Their relationship permissions and Project access still apply. Removing their access or work approval also removes their eligibility. A Primary Contact pin does not make someone a sign-off approver.

Request sign-off on a milestone

  1. Open the milestone and find the Approval section.
  2. Select Request approval and choose an eligible person under Client. They are notified.
  3. That person selects Approve or Request changes from their Portal.
  4. Before they respond, you or anyone who can edit the milestone can select Withdraw to cancel the request.

The approval appears in the selected person’s Portal Inbox only while they retain access to the Project and milestone. Agency previews cannot make sign-off decisions.

Internal and Team milestones show Milestone not visible to client in the Client section. Set the milestone to Shared before requesting a client’s approval. A milestone needs a date to appear in the shared schedule. See Share work with clients.
